Frederick Douglass said, "once you learn to read, you will be forever free."  Yet many students, particularly students of color and those from lower income families, don't have access to books or the help they need to learn how to read.  Our Share the Plate beneficiary for September is the First Unitarian Church literacy program at South Avondale Elementary School.  We offer two programs: tutoring for kindergarten and first grade and the "I love my books" free bookstore program.  Learn more about these efforts and the power of literacy at this service.  Contributions for these programs will be received through September 30 and can be made by text, online, through Breeze or by mailing a check with "South Avondale" in the memo line.
