NOTES
FROM THE DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Hello Everyone,
As I type this we are one day away from the
official start of Spring but we've been experiencing some fantastic Spring
like weather for several weeks now. Now is the perfect time for
families to get out of the house and practice our seventh principle, "We
care for Earth's Lifeboat." Please look below for some more ideas on
how to get your family excited about nature!
Please be advised that my office hours have
changed. I am available at church Sunday through Wednesday, by
appointment. You
can contact me, Meredith Plummer, at
dre@firstuu.com or 513-238-9912.
If you are a first time visitor to First
Unitarian Church and are curious about our Sunday school program, make sure
to look at our
prospectus for information on our curriculum. Look below for updates,
and to see what your child will be doing this Sunday at First Unitarian
Church. To review what your child learned this past Sunday, take a
look at the "Taking It Home," sheets below.

SUNDAY
SCHOOL TOPICS OF THE WEEK
Sunday,
May 20 2012
4 year old—Kindergarten:
Closing Sunday—Our church is a place
to make friends and to work and play together. Today will be our last day as
a class until the summer. Next week, we will have a big party with the other
children in Sunday school. Today, we will celebrate the end of the church
year by creating an “Eveybody Picture.”
1st—2nd Grade: Your Own Picture
Book— Today we will create our own picture book. One of the most
important thing about being a Unitarian Universalist is the wisdom someone
gains from their own experiences. Today, we will review everything we’ve
learned this year and created a picture book from the pictures we took
throughout the year.
3rd—5th Grade: Building Visitor
—Today, we will have a member of our congregation, and builder, visit our
classroom. Our guest will teach us a little about building. And, we will get
to build something ourselves.

CHILDREN'S CHAPEL WORSHIP
Inside each of us, there is something
wonderful and beautiful. That “something” is our love, and it shines just
like a light. When we are happy and loved, our love light shines for
everyone to see. But, when we are mad, sad or afraid, our love light dims.
Luckily for all of us, there are ways to make our love light bright again.
Last Sunday, we practiced breathing deeply. Your child(ren) can join us for
more great lessons about their love light, every Sunday at 9am, during
Children’s Worship.
Honoring
the Light of the Child
School Age Children (4
year old - 5th Grade): Today, the children
will join Ms. Joy for a fun filled day.

UPCOMING
EVENTS, INVITATIONS, AND OPPORTUNITIES
Coming
of Age Service, May 20 at 9am and 11am
Mark your calendar! On May 20 the Sr. High
youth will share their spiritual journeys and personal credos with the
congregation. You don’t want to miss it!
End of
the Year Party, May 27 at 10am
May 27 is the first one service Sunday of the
summer. To mark the end of the church year, the religious education
department will hold an end of the year party for all children and youth
during the service. Children and youth will enjoy snacks and activities
related to each of our seven principles. We’ll recognize that “Each Person
is Important,” through the creation of a hand print mural, and we’ll
celebrate the “Web of Life” through out door play. Your child will even have
the opportunity to tie dye a chalice pattern onto their T-Shirt!
Reminder: We need a white T-shirt for your child by May 20th if s/he wants
to tie-dye a Chalice at our end of the year party. Make sure to write your
last name in permanent marker on the tag.

FAMILY
CONNECTIONS
Spring
into Springtime!
I love this weather. With high's in the
50's and 60's, a slight breeze and a shinning sun, who wouldn't want to get

life," one of the best ways to get your child to appreciate all that nature
has to offer is to get outside and EXPERIENCE it. If you are looking
